A true all-rounder: dry, with a medium body, good acid balance, and moderate alcohol content.

Karl May's Pinot Gris is a true European with many names. In Switzerland, it's called Malvoisie, in France Pinot Gris, and in Italy Pinot Grigio. Its fruitiness, combined with robust aromas and minerality, makes it a good food companion, perfect for German and international cuisine, such as vegetable appetizers, chicken breast, or pike-perch. We recommend a large glass and a drinking temperature of 8-10 degrees Celsius.

Winemaking – Karl May Pinot Gris

The juicy Pinot Gris from Karl May Winery is a dry estate wine from Rheinhessen, from the winegrowing community of Bechtheim, located on the edge of the Wonnegau. There, on sandy loess-loam soil with a south-southeast orientation, the grapes for Karl May's Pinot Gris grow in the Heligkreuz vineyard in organically managed vineyards.

To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, Fritz and Peter May begin in January with gentle pruning and early defoliation of the grape zone for optimal sun exposure, as well as yield reduction through green harvesting in early summer. Selective manual harvesting of the grapes often takes place in several passes. The journey to the new winery is short, where the grapes are gently processed further. The must is gently pressed, and the must is spontaneously fermented, remains on the lees for a long time, and is aged in stainless steel tanks. A small portion (5%) is aged in used wooden barrels and later blended, which brings complexity, fullness, and creaminess to the estate wine.

Pinot Gris – a wine and its values

Origin Germany

Growing region Rheinhessen

Karl May Winery - Fritz and Peter

Vintage 2024

Grape variety Pinot Gris

Screw cap

12.5% vol.
