Pratto 2024 by Cà dei Frati. Late harvest, new style, significantly less residual sugar.
Pratto 2024 is the historic white wine cuvée from the Cà dei Frati winery in Lugana di Sirmione, made from a late harvest of Turbiana, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. Not a dessert late harvest, not a sweet liqueur wine, not a classically quaffable Lugana.
Pratto 2024 is a dry white wine cuvée from the Cà dei Frati family winery on the southern shore of Lake Garda. The cuvée combines Turbiana, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc from a late harvest. In the current vintage, the Dal Cero family has almost halved the residual sugar—from 17 to 9 grams per liter. This shifts the entire wine. Where a noticeable richness once characterized the style, there is now a clearly contoured, mineral profile. The white wine cuvée has thus emerged from the shadow of sweeter late harvests. Today, it positions itself as a versatile food companion—with its full late harvest character.
Tropical fruit over a mineral framework
In the glass, the wine shows a dense straw yellow with golden reflections. The nose opens with pineapple, passion fruit, and mango. Behind that follow yellow stone fruit notes and a hint of freshly mown grass. Beneath lies a cool, almost salty minerality, as brought by the loamy-calcareous moraine soil of Lugana.
On the palate, the fruit is initially soft, almost creamy. Then the wine comes under tension: the 9 g/l residual sugar is framed by present acidity and a fine salinity. The Sauvignon Blanc brings tension, the Turbiana the substance, the Chardonnay the richness. The finish is long, vegetal-mineral, with a subtle bitter note of citrus peel.
Those expecting a lean, acid-driven Lugana in the style of a classic entry-level white wine will find the cuvée too complex and full-bodied. Nor will one find the opulent barrique style of earlier vintages here—oak barrel aging has been deliberately scaled back in recent years. The wine is not suitable for pure aperitif drinkers.
From aperitif to aged cheese
The cuvée unfolds most fully at 8 to 10 °C. Serve from a voluminous white wine glass. The glass shape is not indifferent here. A narrow Lugana stemware would stifle the tropical aromas and diminish the depth.
As a food companion, the wine plays across the entire spectrum. It pairs equally well with pan-fried char with almond butter as with grilled octopus on white beans. A porcini mushroom risotto or smoked Black Forest ham over ripe honeydew melon also benefit from its acid-fruit axis. With foie gras canapés and hearty antipasti with pickled vegetables, it shows its full range. In the cheese course, it is the natural partner for aged mountain cheese, a twelve-month aged Pecorino, or a creamy Gorgonzola dolce. The cuvée also creates a rarely successful bridge to slightly sweet Asian cuisine, such as a Thai curry with shrimp.
Good to know: Due to the late harvest, you should not drink this wine too young. One to two years of bottle aging smooth out the last bitter aftertaste. They also deepen the honey and dried fruit notes. Once opened, the cuvée, sealed in the refrigerator, will keep easily for two to three days. On the second evening, it often shows even more depth. For an in-house cross-tasting, we recommend the younger I Frati Lugana 2025 and the denser Brolettino Lugana DOC 2024 from the same house.
The historic cuvée of the Dal Cero family
The name stands for one of the oldest labels of Cà dei Frati. This cuvée was founded in the 1980s by Pietro Dal Cero. He was one of the co-founders of DOC Lugana in 1969 and significantly shaped the region's profile. Even then, the idea of late harvesting three grape varieties together was unusual. This resulted in a unique wine beyond the pure Lugana style, a flagship for a new direction for the winery.
The grapes remain on the vines well into October. These extra days concentrate aroma and extract. At the same time, the mild microclimate on the southern shore of Lake Garda prevents the acidity from being lost. Turbiana and Chardonnay are vinified in large stainless steel tanks. The Sauvignon Blanc is also aged separately in stainless steel to preserve its green freshness. Only after months of aging on the fine lees is the final cuvée created. In 2024, the family also consistently reduced the residual sugar. The goal was a clear, lean, food-friendly wine—a decision that is clearly visible in the glass.
The term "vendemmia tardiva"—late harvest—is usually associated with sweet wines in Italy. Cà dei Frati deliberately interprets it against the grain here: as a means of concentration, not sweetness. The historically high residual sugar values gave way in the latest style to a dry, mineral-driven cuvée. Those expecting the classic, slightly sweet Pratto of earlier years will find a noticeably different wine. Today, the style is much closer to a mature, full-bodied Pinot Blanc than to a sweet Italian late harvest.
Lugana itself is a distinctive appellation. Located on the southern shore of Lake Garda, spread across the provinces of Brescia and Verona, it is considered a manageable growing area with just around 2,000 hectares. The soil is characterized by glacial moraine deposits. Clay, limestone, and mineral tones retain water. They bring the salty-mineral note typical of the region to the wine. The vines benefit from a mild lake climate, which protects the acidity even in hot vintages. These conditions explain why a late-harvested wine here does not tip into broad sweetness, but rather retains an exciting, fresh depth. Turbiana, long considered a regional variant of Trebbiano and recognized as an independent variety since 2011, is the aromatic anchor of this style. It delivers dense yellow fruit notes and a chalky spice. In the cuvée, it gains richness from Chardonnay and freshness from Sauvignon Blanc.
A late harvest that belongs on the table
What fundamentally distinguishes this label from other late harvests is its self-conception. It's not about the sweet soloist for dessert. It's about the complex food companion that combines the concentration of a late harvest with the dryness of a high-class dining wine. Precisely this tension is what makes it appealing. As a host wine, it is suitable for a multi-course menu where the dishes set accents—from light to robust, from fish to cheese. The wine does not need to be changed between courses. As a gift, it appeals to wine lovers who are already familiar with the profile of Lugana. Those who want to see how far the region can be thought beyond its known varietal style will find their own answer here.
A cuvée for hosts who want to carry a wine through the entire evening—without having to switch it between appetizer and cheese.

How it all began
Does this sound familiar? You return from vacation with a bottle of olive oil from Portugal in your suitcase, a jar of fruit spread from South Tyrol, perhaps a bar of chocolate from a small factory in France — and you ask yourself: Why can't I find something like this easily at home? We kept asking ourselves this question.
We are Kerstin and Stephan Uhlenbusch from Nordhorn, a city on the German-Dutch border. On our travels through Europe, we made the most wonderful culinary discoveries: mountain apple juices from the high altitudes of South Tyrol, Breton barrel butter, handmade pasta from Italy, French sea salt. It wasn't the big luxury products that fascinated us, but rather the honest, artisan-made foods from people who put their heart and soul into their products.
In 2002, we decided to turn this passion into our profession: to make good food accessible to everyone who cannot travel to the producers themselves. This is how our gourmet shipping business came into being — initially as a store in Nordhorn, soon after as one of the first gourmet online shops in Germany. Back then under the name nur Gutes (only good things) — today we continue it as ginusslande.com. The ambition has remained the same: this is where good taste resides.
Who we are
What drives us is the same curiosity with which we started in 2002: finding out who truly makes good food. Over more than two decades, we have built a network — with producers, traders, restaurateurs, and culinary artisans from all over Europe.
Kerstin was the managing director of the association of leading delicatessen merchants in Germany — the industry association of the country's best owner-managed delicatessen stores. In this role, she not only accompanied but actively shaped the German delicatessen industry. With the deli Festival, we also launched our own B2B trade fair for delicacies, which brought together producers, traders, and restaurateurs from all over Europe. The festival no longer exists today — but the relationships that arose from it still accompany us.
What does this mean for you? We know our industry like almost no one else. Chambers of commerce and economic development agencies from all over Europe repeatedly introduce us to exciting producers who want to offer their products on the German market. This way, genussland always offers something you won't find in any supermarket and hardly in any other shop.
What you'll find here
Our assortment includes fine foods, delicacies, wines, non-alcoholic beverages, and selected kitchen and home accessories — from manufacturers in Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, England, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, and the USA.
An extra virgin olive oil from Portugal, a genuine Aceto Balsamico from Modena, Fleur de Sel from the Breton coast, hand-mixed spice blends. Fruit spreads, aromatic honey, truffle delicacies, chutneys, and mustard sauces. Vintage sardines and fine canned fish, risotto rice, and handmade pasta — basic ingredients for honest cooking and specialties for special moments.
Our fresh delivery service brings the legendary Beurre Bordier from Brittany, Italian Burrata, and fine salami to your home — securely packaged and continuously chilled.
Wine is particularly close to our hearts: white wine from Rheinhessen and the Pfalz, red wine from Austria and Burgenland, rosé for barbecue season, natural wine for the adventurous, sparkling wine and champagne for special moments. Not from all over the world — but from winemakers we have personally visited and whose work we appreciate. Many of them work organically or biodynamically.
Our Philosophy
What makes a product a genussland product? We ask ourselves this question for every single item we add to our range. The answer is never one-dimensional – it's the combination of craftsmanship, origin, ingredients, and the people behind them.
We ask many questions before a product finds its way into our shop. How is it made? Where do the raw materials come from? What philosophy does the manufacturer pursue? We quickly notice whether we are hearing marketing clichés or if a producer is happy to explain their journey. It is precisely this enthusiasm that we seek – and repeatedly find.
Craftsmanship. We prefer products from small manufactories and family businesses that often produce their culinary treasures by hand for generations. The careful processing and artisanal skill can be tasted in every bite.
Best Ingredients. For us, good quality begins with the raw materials. Whether it's fruit, vegetables, milk, meat, or grain – we ensure that our manufacturers rely on first-class, as natural as possible, ingredients. Many of our producers are organically certified; our shop itself is organically controlled under the number DE-ÖKO-037.
Origin and Regionality. We appreciate products with a clear regional identity. A South Tyrolean mountain apple juice made from slowly ripened, old apple varieties. A Portuguese olive oil from trees that have shaped the landscape for centuries. These stories of origin make delicacies what they are.
Personal relationship with the manufacturer. We have known many of our suppliers personally for years, some for over two decades. We visit them, taste together, and exchange ideas. This proximity guarantees transparency and trust.
At the end of the day, it has to taste good. We try all products ourselves – not just once, but again and again while cooking, at the table, on the plate. Only what convinces us personally finds its way into the shop.
The people behind the products
What brings us the most joy: We get to accompany passionate individuals on their journey. People whose drive it is to make a good product even better. Some have been with us since our founding - for over twenty years.
There's the South Tyrolean fruit farmer who presses mountain apple juice from old, slowly ripened apple varieties, unlike anything else. The Italian balsamic family who ages their vinegar in Modena for decades. The Breton butter manufactory whose hand-churned butter is on the menu of the best restaurants in Europe. The Danish licorice pioneer who reinvented a centuries-old specialty.
Behind every product in our shop stands a person, a family, a story. And it is precisely these stories that make the difference between an interchangeable food item and a true delicacy.

Refrigerated Shipping
Our product range includes food items that react differently to heat. To ensure that every product arrives in perfect condition, we handle the shipping of two product groups with particular care.
Products requiring refrigeration
These items are marked with the note "kühlpflichtig" (requires refrigeration) in our shop — for example, Bordier butter, Parmigiano Reggiano from Cavola 993, Pancetta and Guanciale from Falorni, mountain herb ham and Tyrolean dumplings from Steiner, Prosciutto Crudo and truffle butter from Viani. We generally ship these products by express delivery with ice packs. They are only available via express shipping. The shipping costs will be clearly displayed before you complete your order at checkout.
Temperature-sensitive products
These items are marked with the note "temperaturempfindlich" (temperature-sensitive) — for example, salami and bacon specialties from Falorni and Steiner, as well as Goufrais cocoa confectionery. In cooler weather, they can be sent by standard shipping. In warmer weather, we switch the shipping to express shipping with ice packs before checkout — in this case, this shipping method is the only option, and the corresponding shipping costs will be displayed at checkout.
Shipping days for refrigerated and temperature-sensitive orders
To prevent any package from remaining in a distribution center over the weekend or public holidays, we only ship refrigerated orders from Monday to Thursday. Orders placed after Thursday will generally not be shipped until the following Monday. In summer, this rule also applies to temperature-sensitive products.
Packaging
Depending on the manufacturer, sausage and cheese specialties are supplied either vacuum-packed or traditionally without foil — for example, Italian salami from Falorni. If air is visible in a vacuum package upon delivery, this is not a quality defect. Please unpack the item and store it in the refrigerator, ideally wrapped in sausage paper or greaseproof paper.
Freight Forwarding
Freight forwarding is used for products that cannot be delivered as a package due to their size or weight. The selection is made automatically before completing the order. Please provide your phone number for scheduling the freight forwarding delivery.
Delivery Area
Currently, we only ship within Germany. Shipping to Austria is in preparation — as soon as we can deliver there, you will find the details here.
Products subject to excise duty (alcohol) cannot be shipped to Austria.
Alcohol
Alcohol can only be shipped to adults. The deliverer will verify age upon delivery. By ordering alcohol, you also confirm that you or the recipient are of legal age.
Shipping Service
For manual creation of shipping labels, we charge an additional €2.50 per shipping label in addition to the stated shipping costs. Please note that we cannot retrospectively combine orders that have already been placed.
Investigation of failed payments
For the investigation and refund of payments incorrectly made to us, we charge a processing fee of €5.00.
With us, you pay in the way that is most convenient for you: PayPal, credit card, or Klarna.
Purchase on account, installment payment, and advance payment are also possible.
Of course, every payment is secure and reliable – so you can enjoy with complete peace of mind.
