Cantina Tramin – Moriz Pinot Blanc DOC

The Moriz Pinot Blanc 2024 from Cantina Tramin is an aromatic, dry white wine from the Alto Adige DOC. The name Moriz is a reference to Saint Maurice, the patron saint of the small hamlet of Söll, above Tramin. The Cantina Tramin Moriz Pinot Blanc appears greenish to light yellow in the glass. It captivates with an bouquet of pear, lemon zest, and dried fruit, accompanied by a delicate scent of white blossoms. On the palate, it is elegant, juicy, and fresh with good body and an appealing minerality. The finish is subtly spicy and long-lasting. This South Tyrolean wine is a versatile food companion, pairing well with a wide variety of vegetables, fish dishes, poultry, and white meat.

Cantina Tramin – Winemaking

The mild winter of the 2024 vintage with sufficient rainfall, as well as a warm March also blessed with rain, led to early bud break of the vines. Subsequently, apart from a few early summer days in April, it was rather cool and damp until the end of June. The summer was warm with many hours of sunshine, and a rainy autumn extended the vegetative phase of the grapes. Overall, 2024 was a challenging vintage that required many extra hours of work in the vineyard.

The Pinot Blanc vines for this Cantina Tramin wine are located on calcareous, gravelly loam soils on hillsides between 400-600m above sea level. They benefit from the Mediterranean climate during the day and cold downdrafts from the surrounding mountains at night. The grapes were harvested by hand in several passes at the time of optimal physiological ripeness and brought to the winery in small containers. There, they were destemmed and gently pressed over a long period. Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature (19°C) in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine was mostly aged in stainless steel tanks, with about 20% maturing in large oak barrels without malolactic fermentation.
