Cantina Tramin – Selida Gewürztraminer from South Tyrol

The Cantina Tramin Selida Gewürztraminer 2025 from the Tramin winery is a highly aromatic white wine from South Tyrol with well-integrated alcohol. The name Selida, meaning small farmstead or small agricultural holding, comes from Old High German and is a tribute to the small-scale farming structure that the Tramin winery embodies. In terms of quality, it ranks between the estate wine and the Gewürztraminer Nussbaumer.

In the glass, it presents an intensely radiant, golden-yellow color. On the nose, this fruity Gewürztraminer unfolds a variety of aromatic notes reminiscent of roses, lilies, spicy blossoms, dried and ripe exotic fruits such as lychee, mango, and passion fruit. On the palate, the Selida shows body, extract, and finely spicy juiciness.

The Cantina Tramin Gewürztraminer is long-lasting, with nuances of ripe fruits and spicy notes. This South Tyrolean wine is a wonderful aperitif, excellent with crustaceans, smoked foods, bacon or lardo, aged soft cheeses, as well as spicy dishes from oriental cuisine and hearty, aromatic creations, such as lamb ragout with Moroccan preserved lemons.

Cantina Tramin – Winemaking

The 2025 vintage began with a mild winter and a particularly early, abundant bloom. The summer was variable: a warm to hot June was followed by a cool, rainy July, before a very warm August rapidly accelerated the ripening of the grapes.

The harvest in many places started significantly earlier than usual and was short, intense, and demanding. Thanks to the small plots of land owned by our member families, their great flexibility, and careful hand-picking, the grapes could be brought in exactly at the optimal time.

The red wines of the 2025 vintage are juicy and fresh, some with great aging potential – especially the Pinot Noir shows a lot of depth and development possibilities. The white wines are somewhat lighter than in previous years, with moderate alcohol, lively acidity, and a clear, fruity style.

The Gewürztraminer vines for this Cantina Tramin wine grow on calcareous, clayey to gravelly-loamy soils on steep, southeast-facing Gewürztraminer slopes between 300 and 500 meters above sea level. The grapes for this selection were harvested by hand at the time of optimal physiological ripeness in several passes and brought to the winery in small containers. There, they were destemmed and, after a short maceration period, further processed with gentle pressing. Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature (18°C) in stainless steel tanks, where aging also occurred without malolactic fermentation.
