Hand in Hand Grauburgunder – Klumpp Näkel
The Hand in Hand Grauburgunder 2025 from winemakers Maike Näkel and Markus Klumpp is just as popular as its big brother, the Hand in Hand Spätburgunder. Since 2011, the winemaker couple Meike Näkel (Ahr) and Markus Klumpp (Baden) have also been making a Pinot Gris together. This wine shows ripe yellow fruits such as pears and apples on the nose, with hints of almond and vanilla. On the palate, the harmonious Pinot Gris displays both a certain creaminess and a lively acidity.
The 25-30 year old vines for the Hand in Hand Grauburgunder from Meike and Markus grow on Baden loam and loess soils with a high lime content, where full-bodied, aromatic white wines are produced.
Winemaking – Hand in Hand
To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, optimal sun exposure is required, so Meike and Markus ensure early, two-sided defoliation of the grape zone. Later, yield reduction is achieved through cluster thinning. After selective hand harvesting of the grapes, a quarter of the grapes are fermented in barriques, while the rest ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Five months of aging on lees with regular bâtonnage, which is the stirring of the yeast, gives the Pinot Gris fullness and a wonderful creaminess.
